About the Different Types of Arches

Everyone is different and so are their feet. Arches come in many types: high arches, low arches and fallen arches, and every kind of arch needs a different kind of support. Choosing the right running shoe with the right arch is sometimes a tricky process.
Different arches in different feet
Testing to find what type of arch you have in your feet is a simple process. Step into a pan of water then step onto the floor to reveal your footprint. If most of the midfoot area is shown in the print you may have fallen arches, also known as flat feet. If approximately half of your arch is shown then you have what is known as a nuetral arch. If there is only a narrow band of print connecting the front of your foot to your heel then you have high arches.
Arches in shoes
Depending on your foot type you need to choose shoes that care for and comfort your feet when running, walking and standing. Those with high arches need a less confining shoe with much padding as more pressure is exerted on their toes and heels. A person with a neutral arch needs support and guidance for their foot, as pressure is exerted throughout their foot and extra padding is needed for comfort. For those with flat feet the maximum guidance and stability are needed. Without the guidance and stability offered by their footwear, these feet have a tendency to roll inward, creating major foot problems over time.
All types of arches have special needs, and all can cause discomfort. Wearing the proper shoe can help comfort your feet, and avoid foot injury to feet from bad positioning and use. Learn about the needs of different arch types and tend to your feet accordingly.
